Vaccine for teachers

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

The National Union of Teachers has called for classroom staff to be some of the first in line for the swine flu vaccine.

In a letter to children's secretary Ed Balls, the NUT says teachers willbe at risk of infection when they return in September, as schools are aprime environment in which the virus can spread. It says that offeringprotection to staff and pupils will ensure that schools can stay openand avoid disruption to education, as well as help to slow the spread ofthe virus among the population. The NAHT backed the letter and said, 'Itis a pragmatic and sensible idea to vaccinate classroom staff.'
