What the pay deal means for me

Wednesday, June 27, 2001

Janet Marriott is looking forward to a hefty pay rise, a new career path and a rise in status thanks to the Nottinghamshire pay deal. An NNEB with 25 years' experience, Janet has been stuck on the highest pay point in Grade 2 for years, unable to move further up the pay ladder. Currently earning about 12,700 she says, 'My salary has risen very slowly, the problem being that I've been at point 15 in the spinal column for years and there was no way of going beyond it.' All that will change in September when she will move to at least point 18 and a salary of 13,764. Once her 17 years' experience at Albany Infant and Nursery School is taken into account, her salary could rise to 16,203, the salary now on offer at the top of Grade 2. The rises will be backdated to April.
