Win a nursery gym in our Awards charity draw

Friday, August 9, 2013

Guests at the Nursery World Awards 2013 event will be able to help Save the Children and have a chance of winning a 1,800 Community Playthings nursery gym.

Save the Children is Nursery World's charity partner for the Awards evening on 28 September at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London, and Community Playthings has kindly donated a £1,800 Knightsbridge Nursery Gym for a special prize draw.

Two people from the winning nursery will have their travel expenses paid to Community Playthings’ workshop in Robertsbridge, East Sussex. There they will join the craftsmen for a morning to help create the nursery gym that will become part of their setting! There will be a photographer on hand to record the day’s events so the children can see how their nursery gym was made.

Money raised in the draw will go towards Save the Children's UK programmes such as Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play! (ESLP!), which helps some of the UK's most vulnerable children.

Save the Children says, 'ESLP! is a support programme that helps families in desperate need to cope with the financial impact of having a young child by providing basic but necessary items for children’s wellbeing, such as beds, cookers or books and toys.

'Right now in the UK, there are 3.5 million children living in poverty. There are children in the UK who:

  • Go to bed hungry because they can’t get a decent meal;
  • Sleep on a damp mattress on the floor because their parents can’t afford a bed;
  • Go through winter without a warm coat or decent pair of shoes.

'This kind of extreme deprivation has a devastating and lifelong effect on children; it can impact on their health and education and can even shorten their lives.

'By giving young children the tools they need to eat, sleep, learn and play, we can help them develop mentally and physically, offering the chance of a brighter future.'
