Seven-year-old Abbie Shafe from Letchworth, Hertfordshire, pictured with her brother Tommy, has beaten hundreds of entrants to win the Daycare Trust’s National Childcare Week (11-18 July 2011) art competition.
Abbie’s picture of herself with her mother painting together was chosen as the winning entry, while her brother Tommy, who is five, was runner-up in the primary school category.
The theme of this year’s competition ran during National Childcare Week was ‘Bring your Parents/Grandparents to Play’.
Children aged two- to-14-years-old were asked to illustrate what they would like their parents, carers or grandparents to get involved in when helping out at their childcare setting.
Judge Keith Chapman, creator of Bob the Builder and Fifi and the Flowertots, chose Abbie’s picture for the top prize, a family break at one of Haven Holiday’s resorts.
The winner of the pre-school category was Rhea Plove, age four.
