Editor's view - You are all heroes

When the Nursery World team started to work on creating our new monthly magazine to better meet the needs of the early years community we serve, we had no idea about how the whole world would be turned on its head in a few swift weeks as the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

So we have been working from our individual homes, as have so many people, and some of the content of the magazine and website has been changed to reflect our drive to give you the latest news, opinion and advice about the crisis, in addition to the daily online content that we are delivering to you.

Our news pages detail the unfolding of events and life for early years providers, with News Roundup including summaries of the many news stories that you can find on our website.

New columnist Karl Handscomb has his say on the support offered to businesses, workers and familes; we have expert advice on maintaining childre’s emotional well-being; and operational guidance on staying open for eligible children.

There’s lots more, of course, with practice and management features that look beyond the immediate circumstances and reflect the ever-present necessity to support children’s learning and development. Our new Building your Curriculum section is kicked off by Julian Grenier, and there is a bumper activities section. Professor Tina Bruce writes on intrinsic motivation.

We’ve also begun a new page of fascinating material from our 95-year archive. Nursery World has lived through many changes since 1925, including the Second World War. We are in unprecedented times, but our unwavering aim is to champion the early years sector in its vital work.
