Opinion: Online... See who's saying what at www.nurseryworld.co.uk

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

I own a nursery and do not intend to study for a degree. I have an assistant manager who will do a degree. If she leaves, I will employ another graduate, unless any other staff wish to step up the ladder. Mr Tesco does not sit at the till pushing shopping through, does he? I will not always be available every day, so I will be providing someone who will!

Hillika - becoming a nursery owner

I am a nursery owner, work more than 60 hours a week and earn nothing. I would love to pay my super staff more, but do not break even, let alone make a profit. The Government never helps the private sector. Years ago I worked in social services-run daycare. They pulled out because they could no longer afford to run them. Private owners have taken on the burden. Surely it's time for the Government to support us.
