See who's saying what at www.nurseryworld.co.uk.

- With my payrise in my last post, I was on £5.50 an hour, the same as someone with a level 2; the level 3s got £5.75. When I left, I got an office job until I could find another nursery post. I decided to buy a flat with my husband, the mortgage based on my salary of £14,069. I have been trying to get back into a nursery but nowhere pays enough. I have just applied for a post at a university nursery, which is paying £13,458-£13,765, more than I've seen for most qualified posts. I hope I get it, as I feel it may be my last chance.

If I could afford it, I would work for pennies. Sadly, life isn't like that!

- I already have EYPS, but I don't believe the thinking has got that far yet for all childminders. We are still fighting to get NVQ3 as the mandatory training level, so it is possible they expect the network co-ordinators to be EYPs and not the childminders.

- I have a degree and ten years experience as a registered childminder. I am on the validation pathway which started in February. Like everyone, it seems like the pieces of the jigsaw don't fit ... then suddenly it all comes together. My advice is to read the standards and think how your practice works towards them.
