Selkie, a five-year-old Labrador, has helped two boys in particular; one whose mother had recently died, and one who suffered from severe cynophobia, or a fear of dogs.

Nursery children have learned to be calm and quiet around Selkie, as well as how to approach and treat a dog.

Bickley Park School is an independent day school for boys aged between two-and-a-half and 13 years. Girls are also admitted to the nursery.

Patrick Wenham, headmaster of Bickley Park School, said, ‘Research has shown that stroking animals can have a positive effect on mood, and help relax and soothe people. This is certainly the effect we have seen Selkie have on the boys here. She is a great member of the team.’
