Information, guidance and insight are provided in this annual training supplement free with the current issue of Nursery World

In this information-packed supplement we investigate the  priorities for CPD and find out where this continuing journey can take practitioners in terms of effective practice, job satisfaction and career progression.

As one training provider outlines, CPD should not be seen as an ad hoc process that stops and starts between courses.  ‘It is a much broader set of activities – including workplace, collaborative learning approaches and innovative use of technology for interactive and collaborate e-learning,’ she says.

Despite financial constraints, CPD is still a vital area of investment for every nursery and the sheer variety of training is becoming richer all the time.

Meanwhile the changes that are underway to move to the Level 3 Early Years Educator title have been somewhat overshadowed in recent months by the ratio debate, but here we examine the Government’s proposals in detail and gauge the views of employers, practitioners and tutors. Most are agreed that more rigour is required for Level 3 – but can the new title live up to its ambitions?

Another new title on its way is that of Early Years Teacher. From this September colleges which have delivered the Early Years Professional programme will change to the new course, designed to give greater recognition to practitioners.

Read our feature on the subject which investigates how the new status intends to build on EYPS success and presents different views on the extent to which this could be a positive move.

There’s also a handy Q&A which details new pathways and national training providers.
