Last month I was delighted to attend the launch of the 'Handle With Care' report in the Scottish Parliament. While the report was laid before the Parliament by Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People, Kathleen Marshall, the crucial point about this report was the contribution of the young people with mobility problems affected by moving and handling policies. At the launch, a DVD of the young people allowed them to expand on what was said in the report.

There are more than 700,000 children and young people living in Wales - which is nearly a third of its population - and from this week, it's my responsibility to speak up for them, to promote their rights and to help strengthen and improve the systems in place to protect them.

I am 17 and studying for a diploma in childcare and education at college. In our class there are 18 female and three male students. I am told that three male students is quite high in comparison to previous years.

This month, the group 11 MILLION, together with Liberty, the National Youth Agency and a group of young people from Corby, launched the BUZZ OFF campaign, to call for an end to the use of ultrasonic dispersal devices used by various business and local authorities. The device, of which there are an estimated 3,500 in use across the country, emits a high-pitched sound only audible to those under 25, including babies and toddlers.

This week, the Department for Children, Schools and Families closed its 'Future Approach to Fees and Subsidies' consultation, which proposes increasing the annual fees for childminders on the Early Years Register by 400 percent and on the Ofsted Childcare Register by 686 percent.

Is there actually an assignment that says, 'Go and find out why there are not many men in childcare?' Or does everyone think of the same research? There must be plenty of other, more important issues than where are all the men. The men are all hiding in fear of getting mobbed by crazy women asking where they are!
