Government departments must 'take up their responsibilities' and give a greater priority to children's play in their policy areas, the organisation that represents play provision in England declared last week. 2m centre will support autism

The first phase of a 2m redevelopment project to create a regional centre of excellence for children with severe autism was launched in Wales last week. Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn, a specialist community school in Denbigh, north Wales, has been providing care and education for autistic children and young people aged between three and 19 years for more than 30 years.

Childcarers slate 'biased' survey

Early years organisations have branded a survey into childcare 'biased' and 'irresponsible', for claiming that one-third of working mothers were unhappy with their child's nursery care. The Childcare Survey of Great Britain questioned 2,000 working mothers. Its findings include that parents' 'ideal form of childcare' would be 'a well-trained nanny'.
