Project helps dads talk to children

A Sure Start project to be launched next month aims to help fathers communicate better with their children. The scheme, 'Who's a Daddy', based in Bridgend, Wales, was begun by speech and language therapist Rebecca Jones. She said she was concerned that while mothers become informed through their involvement in health and education activities with their child, fathers are largely untargeted.

* The development of a new children's 'discovery centre' in London was praised by arts minister Tessa Blackstone last week. Baroness Blackstone made her comments last week at the Hands On! Europe conference in Stratford, east London, organised by the Kids' Clubs Network. In an address to delegates from all over the world, she said, 'I believe that providing museums for the youngest members of the community makes an important contribution to their learning needs and encourages them to live together with a better understanding of themselves and the complex world around them.'
