(Photograph) - The staff of Nursery World invited their guests to the Cannon Bridge Roof Garden in London last week to celebrate the magazine's 80th birthday. Images from Nursery World covers through the decades were displayed on large billboards as editor Liz Roberts unveiled the magazine's new look to an audience of 200 editorial contributors, advertisers, nursery representatives and children's charities. Many marvelled at the spectacular views across London and watched the sun set over St Paul's Cathedral. An 80th birthday supplement will be published later this year. An 'army' of grandparents juggle essential childcare responsibilities with jobs or caring for other adults, according to a new report out this week, which also highlights the anxiety and financial difficulties many of them face. The report Grandparents talking, by the charity Grandparents Plus, a centre for information and training, calls for greater Government recognition and debate about the vital caring role that many grandparents provide.

Early years practitioners in Lancashire are the first to benefit from a new educational resource loan service organised through a local children's centre. Last month Lancashire County Council launched a pilot programme in Pendle in partnership with local Sure Start programmes, Bradley and Whitefield, Brierfield and Walverden, Waterbridge and Walton Lane Children's Centre.

(Photograph) - Children from Lewisham in south London paraded through the streets on 25 June as part of the fifth annual Quaggy Carnival. More than 1,000 local people joined in the day's celebrations and enjoyed live music and dance workshops, face painting, football competitions and arts and crafts. The event began with an hour-long procession through the streets and ended at the Quaggy Children's Centre. It was organised by Quaggy Development Trust, a local regeneration organisation. Nursery manager Jocelyn Ramdeen said, 'We have more than 220 signatures on a petition calling for the zebra crossing and two recently-elected councillors also support the campaign, so we are quite hopeful something will be done.'
