Recently I found that the best way to take the lead was to sit back and watch! I felt that I wanted to ensure I was able to connect with all the staff and children in each group and be aware of any issues that may be arising.
I blocked out a complete week in my diary and spent the days working alongside the staff and engaging with the children. That way I not only observed activities and 'play', but snack and meal times and also the transitions that occurred throughout the day. It was a great opportunity to assess how well some of the changes we had implemented were working, and for the staff to share with me on a very practical level both what they felt was working well and the challenges.
