Effective Coaching

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has launched a range of awards, certificates and diplomas at Level 3 to Level 7, designed to meet the needs of first-time managers. Areas covered include understanding organisational culture and mentoring for teams and individuals, and performance management and the strategic development of staff. CMI's research shows that coaching is increasingly recognised as an effective approach to learning and staff development.

Understanding Epilepsy

ACM Training is offering bespoke training on epilepsy. The half-day course covers what a seizure is, how epilepsy is diagnosed, triggers for seizures, first aid for seizures, and types of seizures. A full-day course expands on this with an afternoon session on epilepsy and risk, the role of the support worker, and epilepsy and behaviour. Trainees' competency is assessed throughout the day with quizzes, feedback and group work. ACM currently delivers training in the North-East for two major care providers and is aiming to extend its courses nationwide. Its lead facilitator is a qualified nurse who also has epilepsy.
