MEASURING UP TO EYP

The assessment of Early Years Professional Status was examined at two special events in London and Leeds at the end of last month. Attended by training providers, local authorities, EYPs, nursery managers and Ofsted, the one-day sessions offered interactive workshops and a Q&A session on how the status is assessed. There were role-play exercises to test whether an anonymous candidate had met one of the key standards.

CWDC underlined that all EYP candidates are assessed internally, moderated internally twice and often externally moderated twice. It explained how assessment involves written tasks, setting visits with interviews and witness accounts, and how students have to demonstrate they have met all 39 steps. Delyth Mathieson of Edge Hill University and Anne Rawlings of Kingston University gave accounts of the assessment process in action.
