A bigger slice

Scottish councils should tell us how they spend their top-sliced money, but they won't (News, 15 March). When I asked Aberdeenshire council I was told that the top-sliced money was spent in line with Scottish Executive recommendations. They give all providers the same per capita, yet our voluntary group pays 120 per week in rent and heat while others in community education buildings pay no rent.

It's not a level playing field. We are all expected to provide the same quality service, but we have to do it with a lot less money than our neighbours.

We now find ourselves in the position that we will have to reduce the number of sessions available to parents next session because we cannot afford the rent and heat overheads. No help is available from the council for this, yet they still top-slice around 400 per child. It's not fair.
