A great idea suffering from lack of funding

Following the letter from Jean Ensing regarding the fragility of Neighbourhood Nurseries (Letters, 14 December), I would like to add my concerns. I have been running a Neighbourhood Nursery in York since May 2004. It still has not reached a level of sustainability after nearly three years, and without additional financial support it is difficult to see a long-term future for it. We have now moved into a purpose-built nursery as part of the new children's centre, a facility which is a joy to work in and which has cost a great deal of money to develop.

I, too, would like to be able to offer subsidised places to poorer families. We have managed to do this for some families, but have had to cease it due to financial constraints.
