What vouchers cost

I support every word by Penny Owen about nursery voucher schemes (Letters, 25 May). I have two day nurseries and accept ten different voucher schemes. Care 4 are the only ones who are user-friendly.

Nurseries are in a very difficult position. Not to accept vouchers would mean that parents would go elsewhere, or lose out on the financial help.

But accepting them causes enormous administrative problems and is very time-consuming. The failure of companies to include the name of the child or parent in the bank reference is the biggest problem, when you have several children using a particular scheme whose fees are exactly the same.

I am convinced that we are losing money by accepting the voucher scheme, and would like to see the voucher companies doing something about it.
