A new strategy for day care

For the first time, all political parties recognise the importance of good quality early education and care for children's development, for enabling parents to work and train and its long-terms benefits for the economy.

The year prior to the election has been a crucial time for children and for families. For the first time, all political parties recognise the importance of good quality early education and care for children's development, for enabling parents to work and train and its long-terms benefits for the economy.

The past 12 months have seen renewed commitments, new pledges and more help for parents to afford childcare. But more importantly, the Government's Ten-Year Strategy for Childcare sets out an ambitious long-term vision for early education and care, and an unprecedented commitment to children and families.

It is time to take this agenda forward and ensure the strategy's commitments are implemented in a way that achieves sustainable changes.
