It is shameful that the skills, knowledge and expertise of the qualified RgNIs are going to waste. Many of those with whom I work during primary inspections are endorsed to inspect in the Foundation Stage. However, few have inspected more than 150 settings, as many of my RgNI colleagues have. Few will have the breadth of inspection experience that the RgNI has of inspecting educational provision in independent schools, playgroups, social services nurseries, private nurseries, Montessori schools, Steiner schools and religious settings.
Ofsted should seriously consider re-training the RgNI to inspect within Section 10, so that everything the Government has expended on training and the subsequent valuable expertise are not wasted, but are used to further develop provision.
