The 'Safer Strangers, Safer Buildings' campaign gives childrencommon-sense guidance to help them identify safe adults to approach andthe kinds of buildings to go into to ask for help.
It will help them pick out responsible adults such as police andcommunity support officers, bank counter staff and shopkeepers and saferbuildings like banks, libraries, post offices and shops.
The scheme is based on Home Office guidance and has been piloted in thenorth-west.
Liam McGurrin of the Children's Safety Education Foundation said, 'Manychildren are so frightened of strangers that they panic when they losetheir parents, even if it's only for a brief period of time. By givingthem a common-sense strategy for what to do if they get lost, thisinitiative could save families a lot of anxiety and worry.'
