Anger at Guardian article citing children under two more likely to display anti-social and aggressive behaviour

* Widespread anger in the early years sector greeted a Guardian article that cited research to suggest that children under two were more likely to display anti-social and aggressive behaviour if they attended nursery. A coalition of organisations were signatories to a letter to the paper, including the Daycare Trust, 4Children, the NDNA, the Child Poverty Action Group, the Equal Opportunities Commission, One Parent Families and Susan Hay of Bright Horizons Family Solutions, protesting at Madeleine Bunting's article.

The letter stated, 'The reality is that most women with children under five now work and they need quality affordable childcare, better maternity leave and flexible working options.

'Research shows that it's the quality of childcare which affects the experiences of children and their long-term development.'
