Details:How it is made and what it can do
Wesco's range of 13 Hungarian glove puppets includes a hare, a tortoise, a dog, a cat and mouse combo, a fox, a bear, a wolf and a chameleon. All are made from seamed, padded velvet with a stretchy welt that grips around the puppeteer's wrist. Head and limbs each have a finger, giving the puppets a wide range of movement. Their characterful look derives partly from their unusual eyes, which are made from painted wooden beads.
Verdict; Our tester's report on the product in action
'I used the chameleon puppet to help tell Eric Carle's story of The Mixed Up Chameleon, and the children really responded,' says Helen Seery, nursery teacher at Yerbury School in Islington, north London. 'These are lovely puppets. They're so soft to the touch, well made and easy to manipulate. The children treat them as if they were real creatures. Often, they'll open up to the puppet more easily than they would to an adult. I can use the puppets to emphasise a point in a story.'
