Around 5,000 primary school-age children

Around 5,000 primary school-age children are to have the chance try out their musical skills in the presence of professional musicians, following the launch last week of the second phase of the Kids' Clubs Network's Come and Play initiative. Funded by Youth Music, the Pounds 650,000 programme will offer workshops at out-of-school and holiday playschemes at 19 new regions across the UK between next April and August. Peter Garden, KCN's music programme manager, said, 'Come and Play provides a wonderful opportunity for children to understand the world of music.' Already 2,000 children at 70 out-of-school clubs have taken part in the scheme since the launch of its first phase in March (News In Brief, 21 August). For information, contact Ally Parsons at KCN on 020 7522 6903 or see www.kidsclubs.org.uk/comeandplay.
