Beach babies

Nannies Abroad, the new company that supplies childcarers to work in holiday resorts, as featured in Professional Nanny in April, has landed a contract with tour operator Thomas Cook. The deal is being piloted in resorts on the island of Menorca this summer, with the accent on children's safety. 'Every nanny chosen to work with Nannies Abroad is qualified and police-checked, plus the amount of hours they work is carefully monitored,' says managing director Ashanti Dickson. 'Too often we hear horror stories of unqualified and unchecked people working with too many children for 70 hours a week. This is not the level of safety that parents should expect for their children on holiday.' Clare Rayment, head of overseas support at Thomas Cook, says, 'If this pilot initiative goes as well as we expect, we will be recruiting hundreds of nannies from the company for all of our resorts.'
