Breakfast fund tied to child health support

The Scottish Executive is putting 250,000 into a fund to help children from deprived areas start the day with a good breakfast. Social justice minister Jackie Baillie announced the creation of the new Breakfast Service Challenge Fund on a visit to a breakfast project at St Martin's primary school, Glasgow, this week. The fund has been set up as part of the Executive's commitment to eradicate child poverty within a generation.

The fund has been set up as part of the Executive's commitment to eradicate child poverty within a generation.

Ms Baillie said the Executive would be undertaking a review to examine what type of clubs exist, where they are, how they are funded, where demand is greatest and what challenges they face. The review will recommend a framework for services and help the Executive decide how best to target the challenge fund.
