Care experts put theory into practice

A team of education and care consultants have become owners after their 1.4m purchase of a day nursery. Education consultants and Nursery World authors Linda Thornton and Pat Brunton and care consultant Martin Pace have bought Westerfields Day Nursery in Worthing, East Sussex, one of two nurseries previously owned by Nestledown Child Care.

Education consultants and Nursery World authors Linda Thornton and Pat Brunton and care consultant Martin Pace have bought Westerfields Day Nursery in Worthing, East Sussex, one of two nurseries previously owned by Nestledown Child Care.

Only Mr Pace, who sold his chain of six Dolphin Nurseries last year, has owned a nursery before.

The 115-place nursery and after-school club, which now trades under the name Reflections Nursery, is a three-storey Grade Two listed building dating from 1845 and set in three- quarters of an acre of walled gardens with mature trees.

Linda Thornton said, 'Our practice will be influenced by our personal interests in babies and young children as explorers and inventors and the key principles of the Reggio approach. Fundamentally, our main interest is to raise the quality of practice in line with UK standards and provide children with stimulating and exciting learning experiences. We are totally committed to developing partnerships with families and the local authority and in the long term we may look to offer training externally.'
