Caring profession

Fen Crosbie (Letters, 25 March) says the striking nursery nurses are greedy, uncaring and unprincipled. This is not true. We give 100 per cent commitment, care and attention to the children we work with. It is unfortunate that children are suffering, but we had to resort to indefinite strike action to show we were serious about getting fair pay, acknowledgment for the job we do, and recognition for the increased number of duties added to our remit over the years.

We give 100 per cent commitment, care and attention to the children we work with. It is unfortunate that children are suffering, but we had to resort to indefinite strike action to show we were serious about getting fair pay, acknowledgment for the job we do, and recognition for the increased number of duties added to our remit over the years.

This strike is not only about more pay - it is also about letting parents and the public know what nursery nurses do in terms of our duties, educating young children, and providing care and attention. We do not just play with children; our job is much more than that. But our salary does not reflect this.

Care and education are a big part of our job, so it's unreasonable for Ms Crosbie to say we are uncaring; surely she doesn't feel her son is uncared for when he is in school?
