Cash prizes for getting people to read together

* A three-year, 1.2m nationwide award scheme is seeking to encourage families and communities throughout Britain to read together. The Reading Families Millennium Awards scheme is backed by the Campaign for Learning at the Library Association in London and supported by lottery funding from the Millennium Commission. Anyone aged 21 or over with a good idea for getting people reading together can apply for an award. There will be 390 winners, with awards of up to 3,500.

This year's Family Learning Weekend is 12 to 14 October.
