Child care, not paperwork

By Terrie Holbrook, a registered childminder in Gurnard, Isle of Wight Early in the morning three-year-old Lyndi chose to investigate the container of role-play items. She chose a long white dress that she had selected and disregarded in previous sessions as she had been reluctant to get inside a full-length dress. Today she made the decision to try it on. We discussed that the dress was too long for safe play and that I would shorten it.

We discussed that the dress was too long for safe play and that I would shorten it.

Lyndi was keen to cut the material herself but it was too difficult for her so I suggested she cut something up from the fabric box. She chose some lengths of blue ribbon. We discussed their origin - from balloons used at the theatre for the pantomime she had gone to see. This led to us talking about the pantomime, the characters and storyline.
