Childcare events: Childcarers invited to apply for apprenticeawards

Outstanding childcare apprentices and employers are being sought by the Learning and Skills Council for the 2008 Apprentice Awards.

Nursery worker Danielle Morris (pictured) was highly commended in thepersonal achiever 19-24 category in the 2006 awards.

Danielle, 21, of Thatcham, Berkshire, completed an Apprenticeship inEarly Years Care and Education in November 2005. Judges praised her forachieving her goal of working in the childcare sector despite illness,physical disabilities and having to spend long periods of time in awheelchair.

Danielle, who works at Jubilee Day Nursery in Reading, said, 'I lovebeing surrounded by the children and I enjoy every day I spend at thenursery.'

Danielle gained a number of qualifications through her apprenticeship,including NVQ level 2 in Early Years Care and Education. She has alsowon the Princess Diana Award, the National Child of Achievement Awardand the Millennium Volunteer Award for Excellence.

Employers are eligible to put forward nominees in one of four categories- Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Apprentice of the Year, YoungApprentice of the Year and Personal Achiever of the Year - depending ontheir company size.
