More than 300 delegates from Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships attended the NCMA seminar, 'Mainstreaming Childminding Training for the 21st century,' aimed at those developing policy for delivering targets and quality training.

They were addressed by employment and equal opportunies minster Magaret Hodge, who presented certificates to ten of the first registered childminders to gain the Level 3 certificate in Childminding Practice.

Childminders Sarah Spencer and Amanda Townsend, who are now approved tutors, told the conference that their training at Stroud College in Gloucestershire had given them confidence and improved status.

The NCMA also launched its new training training materials for introducing, developing and extending childminding practice. Information is available from the NCMA on 020 8464 6164 or its website at www.ncma.org.uk.
