Childminders get quality assurance

A quality assurance scheme specially designed for individual childminders in England and Wales has been produced by the National Childminding Association (NCMA). The Quality First scheme is rolling out nationally across England and Wales after six months of being 'trailblazed' across more than 20 local authorities. It is based on NCMA's 10 Quality Standards - the good practice guidelines all childminder members of the association work towards - and has been designed to comply with the requirements of the Government's Investors in Children initiative.

NCMA Quality First candidates work through a specially designed portfolio, which tests their knowledge and practice in all aspects of childminding.

They can choose to complete it at three different levels, and the portfolio allows them to work in their own homes and at their own pace with the support of a mentor who is available by telephone or e-mail.
