Children bearing the brunt of austerity cuts, shows research

Cuts to services, high living costs and changes to the welfare system have left many children not having their basic human rights met, warns a new report.

The ‘State of Children’s Rights in England 2014’ claims that the cumulative impact of cuts to services, cost of living crisis, and changes to the welfare system has left some children not having their basic needs for shelter and food met or able to access the services, which are supposed to support families, while many more can’t enjoy a fulfilled and happy childhood

Compiled by the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) - a lobbying organisation to protect the human rights of children, the report, which examines how children aged from birth to 18 are faring in all aspects of their lives, is based upon hundreds of sources of research and Freedom of Information requests.
