Children with autism to get school facility

A 2.8m transformation is set to enable a London primary school to offer a specialist unit for children with autism.

The unit at Kentish Town Church of England Primary School will providesupport for up to 14 children with autism from reception to Year 6 whileensuring they are taught alongside other children and included in theschool's mainstream activities.

The school has two nurseries, one of which caters for children withphysical disabilities.

As part of the redevelopment, the reception classroom and nurseryclassrooms will be brought closer together to create an early yearscentre.

Redevelopment of the school began this week and is scheduled forcompletion by September 2010. Once the work is completed the school willfeature sensory and therapy rooms, a PE changing room, an enlargednursery, a new staff room, improved outdoor areas and refurbishedclassrooms.
