Children's work lost to nursery burglars

Management Provision
A north London nursery has been targeted by burglars for the third time in 18 months.

Carville Day Nursery in Walthamstow had almost £3,000 worth of equipment stolen two weekends ago, including four computers, a DVD player, camera, portable TV and some of the children's Christmas presents.

The thieves even drank the children's milk and stole paperwork.

They had broken two doors and a window to gain entry, which was first discovered by the nursery's cleaner.

Owner Joan Daley said, 'The theft has had a big effect on us and we are all really shocked and upset.

'I can't understand how someone could steal from a nursery and want children to suffer. The thieves left us with nothing. The children can't even listen to the radio.

'Although we can claim on the insurance, there are a lot of things we can't get back, such as the children's work stored on the computers and photos.'

Ms Daley said their next step is to consider implementing more safety measures to act as a deterrent to burglars.

The nursery, which has no security CCTV, was first broken into in June 2009 and then again a few months later.

Carville Day Nursery has been operating since 1997 and is registered for 30 children under eight years old.
