From April, 125 nurseries will have access to a managed ICT service. Plans approved last Friday include providing the head of every nursery with a laptop computer, introducing networked PCs for teaching, providing a Glasgow-based helpdesk and central service facility, and offering continuing professional development for staff equivalent to 1,000 training sessions a year.
Glasgow City Council's executive member for education services, Bailie Margaret McCafferty, said, 'This proposal seeks to complement our project to modernise our entire pre-12 sector by giving all primary schools and nurseries access to a state-of-the-art, fully-managed information and communications technology service.'
Jean McGhie, head teacher of London Road Nursery School, said, 'I'm delighted that this is happening. It is great news for Glasgow's nurseries and children. Providing a remote access service will enable staff to work from home and access information which will help with their professional development.'
