Labour’s shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt says that the Conservative party’s ‘extreme plans’ to cut spending over the next four years pose a ‘real threat’ to Sure Start children’s centres.
He warns that the closure of Sure Start centres will be ‘disastrous’ for working families, who are already struggling under 'David Cameron's Government'.
According to Labour, under a Conservative leadership hundreds of children’s centres have closed or ‘mothballed’, while childcare costs have risen six times faster than wages and the number of available childcare places have fallen by 40,000.
The political party says that if the Conservatives win the general election next month 'they’ll do the same again.'
