Counts for nothing

Sorry, yet another letter from a disgruntled, whingeing nursery nurse. I followed the advice in your news story ('NNEBs need not requalify - but refresh training', 13 February) and contacted CACHE to ascertain the current validity of my qualifications - NNEB in 1973, CPQS in 1991, D.32 and 33 in 1993. I worked as a deputy officer in charge of a 60-place day nursery for eight years, have special needs experience and for the past six years have been a nursery nurse in a nursery class. CACHE intimated that an NNEB taken so long ago could have the equivalence of NVQ 2 and that I may need extra training if I wanted to work in daycare.

Like most agencies nowa-days it could not comment on an individual case (who can?).

I had expected that with my qualifications and experience I would stand a good chance of being considered as one of the 'super assistants', but after my reassuring chat to CACHE I now realise that a newly-qualified NVQ 3 would be a far better candidate than me, as I must be a clapped-out, brain-dead, old has-been.
