CRB check fees rise again by 18 per cent

The cost of fees for Disclosure checks on people wanting to work with children and vulnerable adults is being increased by the Criminal Records Bureau for the second time in less than a year. Last week the CRB said that from next April the cost of an Enhanced Disclosure would rise to 33 from 29, while a Standard Disclosure will cost 28 instead of 24. This means the fees will have increased by 18 per cent since June, and 133 per cent since the CRB started in 2002.

Hazel Blears, the Home Office minister responsible for the CRB, said, 'There is clear evidence that the Disclosure service is offering increased protection for children and vulnerable adults. In a survey earlier this year, nearly one in five organisations that used the service have declined to employ someone as a result of information contained in a Disclosure.'
