Design a Sea Creature winners

A record number of children entered the Design a Sea Creature competition, held by childcare insurers Morton Michel in association with Sea Life Conservation.

Judges including Nursery World Editor Liz Roberts spent hours deliberating over 1,600 entries.

The competition, which was open to anyone involved in the early years and childcare sector, aimed to provoke discussion about how children can help protect our seas and some of its creatures from extinction.

Entrants were judged in three age categories – under-five, five- to seven, or eight- to 11, with the artwork submitted by their childcarer or school.

The under-five winner was Maisie McMahon, aged four, from Swindon, who is cared for by childminder Denise McMahon. Maisie’s sea creature picture of a ‘Vampire squid at night-time’ won her a Schleich Polar and Sealife set, and The Consortium’s Titchy Waterfall Play Tubs for her setting.
