Nursery World - DfES appoints team for Foundation Stage

A team of early years specialists has been appointed by the Department for Education and Skills to work with local authorities and Early Years and Development Childcare Partnerships in providing support, training and continuing professional development for effective Foundation Stage practice. The group of 12 regional directors will begin work next month under Lesley Staggs, who became the first-ever national director of the Foundation Stage when she took up the post last October. Ms Staggs said, 'Their role will be to work with local authorities advising on training support for Foundation Stage practitioners. That will be their main focus, but they will also work with other colleagues in the National Primary Strategy.'

Training and materials are to be developed after a series of conferences taking place across England this month to agree on the skills and competencies that Foundation Stage practitioners require.
