Disaster plan

We are being told that we need an emergency evacuation policy. Now this is no bad thing. While I know what we would do in the event of us having to leave the building, it has never been documented. However, I am shocked at the Ofsted advice given for this policy, which is to arrange a nearby location where children could be walked to for collection by their parents. This could present as many hazards as the unsafe building. The ratio for outings is set at 1:3 for good reason.

Having a plan to relocate to a local church hall or library may fall foul, as that might be the day it is closed.

It is misleading advice to those nursery managers who blindly follow the advice of an inspectorate which has lost touch with what it is like to work in childcare day in and day out. This is another example of ill-thought out, impractical diktat which defies sensible practice.
