Kokeshi dolls

Japanese craftsmen make collectable miniature Kokeshi dolls. A simple wooden body and round head is turned on a lathe, then hand painted.

You will need:

4cm diameter balsawood/paper ball, small plastic bottle, paper, glue, pencil, scissors, felt-tip pens

What to do:

1 For the body select a small, clean plastic bottle (such as a yoghurt drink).

2 For the head use a balsawood or paper craft ball approximately 4cm in diameter (available from craft suppliers). Draw on facial features and hair with felt-tip pens.
