Draw the sound

Make a game of being quiet and listening to the world around us. Resources

Resources

Coloured felt pens or crayons a large sheet of paper or card Step by step

* Take the children outside, or if this is not possible, close to an open window.

* Sit them around you in a semi-circle and ask them to be very, very quiet.

* In a whisper, ask them what they can hear and ask them to tell you by whispering, one at a time. You could ask them to put up their hands or make a signal before telling you, to try to keep their sounds to a minimum!

* Draw each item boldly on your paper or card, showing the children how you have represented their sounds - a bird, a car, the trees moving in the wind.
