One of an EYP's first priorities is to make children feel valued and secure. Developing a positive relationship with all children is therefore vital to the role, says the CWDC's Jane Haywood Standard 25 'Establish fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with children'

Standard 25 'Establish fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with children'

Standard 25 sits within the 'Relationships with Children' section, which includes three other standards through which EYPs must demonstrate that they build positive relationships with children as a basis for working effectively with them.

Following up concerns

Candidates should demonstrate that they focus on the needs of individuals within the group during planning, working with children and evaluating the impact of provision.

They must recognise that children are part of a family or caring network as well as a wider social context, and appreciate the diversity of these networks. They will take account of children's skills, interests and preferences and notice changes in individuals' attitudes or behaviour. They will follow up any concerns, such as recognising when a child needs to sleep or to be cuddled.
