Standard 27 'Listen to children, pay attention to what they say and value and respect their views'
Positive relationships
Standard 27, 'Listen to children, pay attention to what they say and value and respect their views' sits within the section 'Relationships with children'. This contains four standards which outline how EYPs must demonstrate that they can establish positive and constructive relationships with children, communicate effectively, respect and value their views, and act as a role model to reflect the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children.
The section, and this standard in particular, highlight the importance of EYPs being both excellent practitioners and leaders. The consultation CWDC carried out with children, parents and carers highlighted listening skills as one of the most important attributes children thought an EYP should have. Listening skills are also a vital part of establishing respectful relationships with children and are central to their learning.
