The CWDC's Jane Haywood explains that helping children to fulfil their potential is a vital part of the Early Years Professional's role. Standard 7 Have high expectations of all children and commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full potential Standard 7 sits within the Effective Practice of the Guidance to the Standards. This section contains 18 standards, which outline how EYPs must demonstrate their commitment to raising the achievement of all children in the setting in which they work, irrespective of their age, gender, social background or current stage of development or attainment.

Building on a child's interests

EYPs should demonstrate that they meet this standard in every aspect of their planning, their direct work with children and their evaluation of their own and others' practice. This means that they will find out relevant information about children and their families in order to enable all children in the setting to develop, learn and achieve their full potential.
