Editor's letter

It's good to know readers' comments about products are taken seriously by suppliers. One nursery owner wrote to us about a steriliser we had featured in our spring issue. She used several of these in her well-populated baby room and two had already broken. We contacted the company on her behalf and it swung into action, replacing the items free of charge and promising to look into providing her with a large steriliser to cope with the extra needs of a nursery. Several design faults identified in our testing procedure have also encouraged companies to modify or refine their products. Delighted by this response, we have decided to establish a regular slot in the magazine. Tell us about problems you are having with equipment and we will forward the information to the company concerned and let you know what action, if any, has been taken.

Of course, it's nice to be positive as well, so if you have bought something that really works well in your setting, do let us know, so we can pass on the good news. Whether it's a brickbat or a recommendation, send your letter to me at the address on this page. There will be a prize for all letters published.

We hope you enjoy our autumn issue. As usual, it's full of news and information about all types of equipment. We had great fun finding music resources for you and I am still humming the tunes from Happy Sun High. You can read about this and other songs along with a wide range of instruments on page 18. We also hope you find our comprehensive round up of buggies useful (see page 16). There is a fantastic selection to choose from and something for every budget. We have also found some great games for out-of-school maths clubs (page 30) and some irresistible tactile books for the baby room (page 14). Perhaps more prosaic, but just as essential, is the furniture on page 29. We aim to cover everything you could need in an early years or out-of-school setting, so we're sure you'll find something interesting.
